Design an Organic Baby Nursery - 5 Easy Tips

With the recent focus on organic living and eco-friendly products, many parents have become interested in creating non-toxic, natural living spaces for their children. One room that typically receives special attention is the baby nursery. Since newborns are still developing, a healthy home environment is particularly important. Creating an eco-friendly or organic baby nursery is a smart move not only for your baby, but for your family and the environment as well.

If you’ve ever awaited the birth of a child, you know that it’s an exciting time! With happy anticipation, the decorating frenzy begins. Bedding and furniture are purchased, walls are painted and new floors may be installed. It’s natural to want everything in the baby nursery to be new and beautiful for your precious newborn.

But new and beautiful doesn’t necessarily mean safe. Traditional furniture, paints and fabrics may have chemicals and toxins that can be unhealthy for your baby. Luckily, stores and online boutiques are offering more eco-friendly options for furniture, wall coverings, floorings, and organic baby bedding. These natural, organic baby products are typically produced without the use of harmful chemicals and thus contribute to a healthier nursery environment.

Here are five smart purchases to make when creating your organic baby nursery.

A Natural Wood Baby Crib. Your baby spends many hours sleeping early in life so a non-toxic crib is important. Traditional wood cribs may have harmful stains or finishes while furniture made from pressed wood may contain adhesives that can also irritate your baby. Consider purchasing a sustainable natural wood crib with a non-toxic finish.

An Organic Crib Mattress. Your baby’s actual sleeping surface is just as important as the crib. Conventional mattresses may contain materials and toxins that may be released into the air while your baby sleeps. To promote your baby’s health and safety, look for organic crib mattresses that are made from certified-organic materials and fabrics.

Organic Crib Bedding. Many people are unaware that conventionally-grown cotton is one of the most heavily-sprayed crops in the world. To ensure that your baby’s sensitive skin is not exposed to toxins in regular cotton bedding, consider organic baby bedding made from natural, organic fabrics and eco-friendly dyes.

Eco-friendly Carpet and Flooring. Traditional carpets typically contain known allergens such as adhesives, stain protectors and flame retardants. To avoid bringing these allergens into your baby’s room, look for healthier alternatives such as eco-friendly hardwoods, bamboo and cork floorings or rugs made of natural fibers.

Non-toxic Paint. Ever been painting and noticed that strong odor? Many traditional paints emit toxins called volatile organic compounds which can be hazardous to your family’s health. Look for low-voc, zero-voc or milk-based paints made of natural non-toxic elements.

Creating an organic baby nursery is a great way to prepare for the arrival of your precious child. By incorporating these design details, you can create a healthy, nurturing nursery for your baby.

How To Cope With First Child Birth

Have you imagined how you are going to deal with first child birth when your doctor tells you that you are pregnant? If you haven’t experienced it then how can you explain your feelings and concerns about child birth until it is all over. But if you get pregnant, you should be thankful. Considering the number of women who give birth each day, it is a different experience for all of them but thankfully there are ways you can prepare for the event.

It is always good to know in advance what options are available to you before the event. All women have different pain thresholds and some need to have painkillers, others are adamant they will have the child naturally. Whatever decision you make regarding this will be honored, it is your body after all. Opinions on using drugs during child birth vary and everyone has one but it is only your opinion that counts. There is always a doctor who can help you with any concerns you may have. For husbands, if you are the one who get her pregnant, then at least you can do is to support your wives during their pregnancy.

For the health of your baby, you want to get as close to full term as possible. Always listen to your doctor and keep up the appointments made with them. While premature births are quite common and baby’s today have a greater chance of survival, it can damage their health. The best way to reduce the risk of a premature baby I listen to your doctor in addition to eating and living healthily. You may have ignored your doctor before but in this instance, if they say rest more, just do exactly as they say. There are always things you can do to learn more about child birth including going to local classes held at your hospital, where you will be taught more about the birth itself, how to reduce pain and make the birth less stressful for the baby. I assume that you can ask them about ways to get pregnant when you are ready for the second baby. Today, you can check out many resources that can assist you and I believe these classes can help you to deal with your concerns.

Everyone has their opinion about a drug induced birth but ultimately, you are the one that counts. You won’t have any regrets once you hold your baby in your arms for the first time.

Fun Exercises You Can Do With Your Kids

If you have children, you might feel guilty leaving them to go work out at the gym. Who states you have to go to the gym to get a great workout? Your children can provide an excellent source of cardio inducing fun. Here are just a few ideas.

Jump

Remember all of those silly rhymes you used to sing while you jumped rope? Why not instruct them to your kid while you’ve a jumping rope contest. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn a few new rhymes from of the next generation while you work up a sweat.

Hop

Grab a piece of chalk and head to the sidewalk for a game of hop scotch. All of the hopping and bending will make your legs burn and your heart race.

Shoot

If you’ve an older child, challenge him or her to a game of one-on-one basketball. Chasing your little dribbler might be harder than you think.

Dance

Dancing can be a great cardio exercise. No matter if you’re playing Dance Dance Revolution or just rocking out to the Ipod, grab your tot and boogie.

Run

Kids love races, so why not challenge your child to a sprint? Set a goal, such as the end of the block or twice around the home, then take off. If your tot starts to lag, pick him or her up and carry them the rest of the way. The extra weight will burn more calories and is sure to get a giggle or two from your little one.

Get the most out of these exercises by coupling them with a diet program such as this Fatloss4idiots review.

Softball Nutrition Tips - Eat More to Perform More

Fruits.jpgFor those of you who don't know, in addition to coaching softball, being a softball peak performance coach, I've also been teaching at the community college level for the past 10 years or so.

I currently teach nutrition, sports conditioning, and weight training classes.

I've also taught sports psychology and a few other  fitness-related PE classes in the past.

Last week, in one of my nutrition classes, we were doing  our traditional food log analysis.

I asked my students to keep a detailed food and exercise log for a whole week. After that, we input all the data into a popular online tracking software and look at the results.

This is the most significant exercise of the semester as students get to learn a lot about their own eating habits and are often shocked at what they find out!

One of my students is a 6'3", 18-year-old talented female basketball player that plays for the college team.

We were looking at her numbers and what she discovered blew her away.

Her estimated daily caloric expenditure is around 4000 calories which is totally normal for such a tall and active elite athlete of that age.

Her daily caloric intake for that week was around 2600 calories.

That's a 1400-calorie deficit per day! This is huge!

This is really bad news for an elite athlete.

Talking to her, i learned that she is often tired and has a  hard time focusing in class, especially in the afternoon.

And at that time, she had a cold that just wouldn't go away.

Guess what?

All of that might have surprised her but I was not surprised one bit.

This is VERY TYPICAL of student-athletes.

Most of them are so busy with school and training that they don't eat enough.

And a lot of the time, they don't eat well either.

And then they expect to perform well!

Try to run a car without gas - you will not go too far.

You've got to feed the machine!!! And you've got to feed with good stuff, not crap like highly processed or fast food.

You have to eat more, eat more often, and make better choices more often if you want to perform well.

And guess what - nutrition does play a role in softball, especially when you train regularly and play at a high level.

Here are a few additional nutrition tips for you:

Treating Teen Acne: From a to Zit

During a time when teens are just learning to form bonds within their peer groups, your body may be wreaking great havoc - making you prone to acne breakouts.

Indeed, being prone to such breakouts doesn’t make the slow transition of self-discovery and acceptance any easier, and many teens who suffer from acne may isolate themselves, feeling conscious about their physical appearance.

Thankfully, there is good news! With the numerous acne products on the market, you do not have to suffer from acne, especially if you can understand and treat the root of teen acne outbreaks.

Common Causes of Teen Acne

Causes of teen acne can vary from person to person and can encompass a number of factors. Genetics can play a factor, as well as the overall health of the adolescent.

Below is a list of some of the more common reasons for pubescent acne. The list is by no means comprehensive, but hits on the more prevalent causes of the skin disruption.

The varying causes of teen acne include:

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Formation of dead skin cells

  • Hereditary pre-disposition

Foods cannot cause teen acne; however, some teens may have mild food allergies that cause them to experience outbreaks. If this occurs, stay away from those foods.

At the end of the day, acne is a skin condition that can be treated topically or orally.

What Teens Can Do About Acne

There is a multiplicity of acne products available on the market that can help teens combat recurring and chronic breakouts. Whether you have blackheads, whiteheads or a combination of both, suffers can locate something that works well.

  • Daily skin treatments - Such treatments include three to four steps that utilize cleansers, exfoliants, and moisturizers. Depending on how bad the problem is, an individual may also need to use an on-the-spot reducer that has benzoyl peroxide of salicylic acid.

  • Zeno - This hand-held, portable electronic medical device has been clinically proven to make pimples disappear quickly. When the heated tip is placed on a blemish, the heat will stimulates the follicle, speeding healing.

  • Dermatological visits - Regularly scheduled visits to a dermatologist may reveal the underlying cause of teen acne, which will make treatments more effective. Accutane, cortisone shots, and certain antibiotics could even be employed to get your skin glowing and in good health.

You Can Live Acne Free

Acne doesn’t have to stunt your social life. There are acne products available that can help you abolish your teen acne for good.

Due to body chemistry, what works for one person may not work for others. For this reason, it may take a bit of trial and error to find out what will be most beneficial to your individual skin type.

Also realize that some acne products take a period of time to work. A few treatments can even make the problem worse before it gets better. For this very reason, you may wish to wait six to eight weeks before declaring the ineffectiveness of a particular acne medication.

Once you locate acne products that work, stick with it. If you do, you can remain acne free well into adulthood - or at least until after your senior prom!

Softball Training - Are Dynamic Warm-Ups Workouts?

dynamic-warmup.jpgOne of the many questions that I get from softball players doing dynamic warm-ups for the first time is:

"Is it normal that I'm sweating and feel like I am  working out?"

My answer is always: "Yes and No. Yes, because you  aren't use to the exercises yet and it's working the  muscles that needs work. And no because it should be fairly easy to do for a softball player and in your case, it's not."

Often, at first especially, players and coaches will almost think like you are working out because some of the exercises are a little more challenging like the twist and lunge for example.

Let me say it: you are NOT working out. You are only preparing your body to perform at an optimal level.

But the reality is that if the players aren't in the greatest condition or haven't trained the right way, they will feel like they are working out a bit at  the beginning.

So, it is somewhat normal to find it challenging the first few times. However, it should not be long that your body will get used to it.

It's not a bad thing actually.

It has the great side benefit of strengthening the weaker  muscles and lengthening the tight ones (improving flexibility) because of the nature of the exercises.

Once you don't find it challenging anymore, it's good news. It means that your body is more athletic!

What should you do if you feel it is a bit challenging
at first?

STICK WITH IT! It will only takes a couple of times before it becomes much easier. Your body will thank you later for it.

Custom Boat Covers Bring Peace of Mind

by Velda Johnes

You’ve finally realized your lifelong dream of owning a boat. All of that hard work has finally paid off, and you are now a boat owner. Now, you need to take special care to ensure that your dream boat doesn’t become your worst nightmare.

When you finally realize the dream of owning a boat, why risk your happiness and investment by leaving its future to chance? Boats are expensive purchases, and only a chosen few can go out and buy a new one every few months.

So, it’s extremely important that you take every precaution today, to ensure many years of life for your boat. The best maintenance today will provide protection against all of nature’s elements.

A custom boat cover may be the perfect solution for protection today, and in the future. Your boat is built to be in the water, but that doesn’t mean it can withstand daily exposure to rain, snow, ice or even direct sunlight. Custom boat covers provide all-season protection from the elements.

You’ll find several companies that manufacture customized covers. “Customized” is not entirely accurate, because mass-produced covers are created to fit particular boat models. They are not created for each individual boat. These covers will, however, provide a custom fit and all-season protection for your craft. Your local marina or boat retailer should have custom cover options available for your boat model.

A custom boat cover is designed to protect more than the hull of the boat. It will cover the motor, masts and accessories as well. To ensure a perfect fit, you may need to have the cover tailored specifically for your boat. It’s the best way to guarantee a snug fit and the highest level of protection.

You will have a choice of materials when selecting your boat cover. Canvas, polyester, nylon, and waver polyester are all good options that offer dependable protection and endurance. Look for a cover that is waterproof, dustproof, and flexible.

The material should also provide ample air circulation, as any moisture that accumulates under the cover can cause irreversible damage from rust or mildew. Be sure that the boat can “breathe”, even while it is covered up. Some consider the best material to be a 50/50 polyester blend, as this fabric is light, waterproof, and lets air circulate while it blocks potential harmful UV rays from the sun.

Extra precautions must be taken, even after choosing the best custom boat cover made of the highest-quality material. Once your boat is covered, you’ll need to seal the seams and close any gaps using waterproof tape. Areas commonly affected by rot or rust need extra attention. Taping the seams of the cover and closing any gaps will provide the added protection essential to your boat’s long and happy life.

Don’t toss your hard-earned money out to sea. Invest in a custom boat cover, and keep your craft in ship-shape condition for years to come.
