Earn Money Quick with a Yard Sale

Earn Money Quick with a Yard Sale by Jessica Hannah

After 12 years in our family home raising 2 children we have more stuff than we could possibly ever need. It kind of mounts up slowly but before you know it your house it packed to the rafters with bits of furniture, gadgets, ornaments and toys galore, it was time for a yard sale!
In the UK where I live people tend to get rid of unwanted junk at car boot sales. In fact these are so common and popular you could even say they are a British institution. If you are not familiar with the concept I will explain, car boot sales are held normally on a Sunday in school playgrounds, fields or other big open spaces. Members of the public can pay a small fee (usually about $10) for a pitch where they can park their car and sell all their stuff normally packed in the boot (hence the name).

Anyway for us the idea of doing a car boot sale whilst appealing was not realistic given the amount of clutter we had to get rid of, far more than our small family motor could handle. To be honest I am a bit lazy as well and do not like the idea of getting up really early on a Sunday morning as it is the only day I get to lie in for longer.

So I suggested to my spouse that we do a yard sale. In the first instance we contacted the local council to find out if there where any restrictions on doing one, they advised us that we where not allowed to put posters up on trees, lampposts or any road signs. In addition to this they where not prepared to let us put leaflets through our neighbour’s mailboxes either. Apparently we would need a business permit if we wanted to do either of these activities which definitely were applicable to us.

To get around this we created a banner which we hung from the front of out top bay window. We made it by hand and wrote on it in big letters “Yard Sale This Sat at 11amâ€. We also created some big posters which taped to our bin and wheeled it to the end of our drive and left it there for the week.

Our modest promotion paid off big time. Come 11am on Saturday we had a number of potential customers eagerly waiting for us to pull our junk out so they could trawl through. In fact all day long we had a steady stream of customers buying up pretty much everything in site. In fact I was amazed at what people where prepared to pay good money for!

Worn out but encouraged by the end of the day we where able to withdraw into our house and count up the takings. We had made over $200 dollars and managed to get rid of lots of unwanted items. It was and incredible result and the whole family were absolutely delighted.

With the money I took a trip to the local DIY and discount ceramic tile stores and purchased materials to completely redecorate our family bathroom a very satisfying outcome indeed.

Home Plumbing Tips: What Is Hard Water

Home Plumbing Tips: What Is Hard Water? by Bryan Farrow

Tap water containing high levels of dissolved minerals like calcium is known as hard water, which can cause problems with home appliances such as water heaters / boilers, washing machines, dishwashers, radiators and kettles. We’ve all seen the mineral residue left in the bottom of a kettle after prolonged use and many of us have bought kettles with inbuilt ‘filters’ to keep this residue in the kettle and out of the water that pours from the spout.
Magnesium is the other most common dissolved mineral found in our tap water which along with Calcium builds up after the water comes into contact with water pipes. If this build-up is not removed periodically, it will clog pipes, interfere with water pressure and all too often cause appliances such as washing machines and boilers to stop functioning altogether.

Other than ‘fur’ in the bottom of a kettle, another early warning sign that hard water is prevalent is when you have to use a lot of soap or detergent to get a lather.

In the majority of homes, it is normally possible to install some sort of water filtration or softening system. Obviously the best place to install this is at the main water supply point. Other than this, it may be possible to put some sort of water softening compound into the main water tank.

The major cause of appliance breakdown is hard water, particularly the build-up of calcium residue. Water filters and anti-calcium compounds, for example the brand Calgon, can extend the life of washing machines and dishwashers. You should also consider installing an inexpensive filter on your main water heating unit or boiler.

If you live in a hard water area, you can obtain washing products that are formulated to tackle this problem. For example you can buy dishwasher and washing machine powders that first soften the water and so will help to get your dishes / clothes cleaner. There are many cosmetic products such as shampoos and soaps which are also formulated to act as water softeners and these will help to remove the residue from hard water, making it easier to clean your hair and skin.

In summary, dealing with hard water need not be a major concern but installing a water softening system can do wonders. If this option is too expensive or simply not viable, there are plenty of products out there that will make cleaning easier and wherever you live, hard or soft water area, it’s worth a regular ‘flush’ of your water pipes with a water softening agent from time to time to prevent the build up of calcium deposits.

3 Parenting Tips - Helping Your Child Build Character and Overcome Pouting

3 Parenting Tips - Helping Your Child Build Character and Overcome Pouting by Jean Tracy, MSS

Would you like some parenting tips when your child pouts with lips turned down and drooping eyes? Do you feel stressed, nervous, or angry with the pouting? Look inside for 3 ways to understand, help, and build character in your pouting child.

I know how difficult it can be when your child pouts. Pouting affects your feelings and stresses you on the inside. ‘Oh, no,’ you think. ‘I must make Joey happy.’ If the pouting continues, your mind, like a rubber band, can snap with anger. ‘He shouldn’t pout. He has no reason.’ You yell, “Joey, wipe that look off your face right now! I’m sick and tired of your pouting.”

Kids Who Pout - What You Need to Know:

When kids pout, they’re drowning in a sea of negative thoughts. They need your parenting guidance because they don’t know how to pull out of it. If you yell, they sink further. How can you save them from developing a habit of thinking dark thoughts?

3 Parenting Tips for Building Character and Stopping the Pouts:

First Parenting Tip - Learn What’s Behind the Pouts -

Kids who pout think negative thoughts like the following:

You love my brother more than me
You give her everything
You never do what I want
Nobody likes me
Poor me.

Second Parenting Tip - Ask Questions -

Take your child off the “pity potty” within his mind. When your child is in a good mood, talk with him. Time alone like going for a walk or a private dinner can provide the atmosphere you need. Ask questions like the following:

What was your pouting all about?
Tell me about the pouting. What was going on?
When you pout, what kind of thoughts are you thinking? Would you be more specific?
How do you feel inside when you pout?
Would you like to be happier and overcome the pouting?

Third Parenting Tip - Listen Carefully, Avoid Criticism, and Then Brainstorm -

Your child’s answers will give you the information you need. Don’t interrupt to deny his thoughts, feelings, or tell him why he’s wrong.

You don’t want him to think, “Mom never listens.” Or “Dad doesn’t understand me.” Ask, “Is there more?” Keep asking this question until your child is all talked out and has no more to say.

Assure your child of your love. Avoid criticizing with blame, ‘you should have’, or guilt. These tactics can shut communication down faster than a slamming door.

Now is the time to suggest, “Let’s brainstorm how you can help yourself stop the negative thinking and be happier.” Have your child go first. Make sure all the suggestions are positive.

Conclusion for Saving Your Child, Building Character, and Stopping the Pouts:

Learn which negative thoughts flood your child’s mind. Pull those thoughts out by asking questions. Listen well and get him to trust that you really care. Brainstorm solutions together.

Follow these steps. Save him from a ‘pity potty’ life. Teach him how to stop drowning in negative thoughts. Give him a better future by taking the time to ask, listen, learn, and brainstorm. He’ll build a better character for solving problems too.

Family Facts For Family Trees

Family Facts For Family Trees by Mike Selvon

Alex Haley, the author of ROOTS, once wrote: “In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness.” In your quest for meaning and a sense of community, you’ll uncover many family facts to include in your family history book. This compendium of data will eventually begin to form a more complete picture of where you’ve come from and where you’re going.
One of the family facts you’ll discover with genealogical research is the meaning and history of your surname. Perhaps your last name breaks down or translates into a specific meaning in another language. Maybe your name was changed over the years, which can provide even more clues to your origins.

You may be able to look up a coat of arms to get a clearer picture on what it meant to be in your family. It might be neat to have the coat of arms on display at your house somewhere. Also, you may find your surname belonged to a prominent family back in history, which will lead you to find out more about your ancestry than you ever thought possible!

Another one of the interesting family facts to uncover is your family’s place of origin and their migration to the US. The customary traditions we celebrate at the holidays have been passed down from generation to generation from the Old World to the New.

Even if your family doesn’t have many cultural traditions, you can begin to celebrate them once you delve into your countries of origin. You may be interested to see what forces might have led your ancestors to seek out a new life in America — maybe it was the great Potato Famine, the Holocaust, the spread of cholera or religious persecution, for example. You can look up information about the year of emigration and the countries of origin by looking at immigration records, Ellis Island records and census records.

While your online family tree may not be as long as the philosopher Confucius’s (which is now up to over 80 generations and more than 2 million members), you may be surprised at how far back you can go. Some people talk about tracing their lineage back to pirates, Vikings, pharaohs and philosophers.

Even if you just find out which countries your relatives originated from through Ellis Island records, you’ll be fascinated by the clues you pick up along the way. Looking up family facts is more than just good trivia: it’s a thoughtful examination of your family’s enduring legacy. By preserving these memories, you’ll ensure that legacy lives on for future generations.

Playgrounds at Daycare Centers Have Long Lasting Benefits

Playgrounds at Daycare Centers Have Long Lasting Benefits by Paul Travis

Playgrounds at daycare centers are, of course, great entertainment for children. Most children’s eyes light up when they see a brightly colored slide, a shiny swing set, or a big rubber tire swing. Playgrounds are fantastic sources of activity for recess and for after-school playtime. They don’t require any planning for activity time, and a one-time purchase covers almost all costs (except perhaps occasional maintenance). And of course, as stated above, they’re fun! But they have other benefits as well.
First, they promote physical fitness. Inspiring a love of physical activity and outdoor time at an early age is key to providing children with healthy habits for life. Equipment like jungle gyms, slides, swing sets, and tire swings all require aerobic exercise. They also build muscle. This activity helps keep children healthy and discourage problems like childhood obesity. Inside, solo play usually entails much less physical activity. This does not allow children to burn many calories, which can help cause weight gain. A playground makes being active fun and helps burn enough calories to keep them fit and out of the risks of type II diabetes and other health complications arising from obesity and lack of exercise.

Playgrounds have additional perks as well. They also help teach social skills from an early age. The community aspect of playgrounds requires sharing of equipment. This teaches children the importance of paying attention to the needs of others. It also shows them the benefits of collaboration, when they can combine their toys, such as trading tools in a sandbox. And, it helps them see how they fit into a greater community. When one child tries to take over the monkey bars for just himself, for instance, he sees directly how it affects everyone else on the playground. Therefore, he can see himself operating in a system greater than himself. Giving children these lessons early in life will give them essential skills that they can later apply to business, advanced schooling, social organizations, relationships, and beyond.

Additionally, playgrounds facilitate new friendships. Playgrounds are a place where all the children in daycare can come together and enjoy themselves. Everyone gets a chance to have fun and use the equipment. Having all of them together, with the joint purpose of enjoying the playground, gives children experience in dealing with large groups. It helps them make new friends more easily. And, being exposed to so many children helps make them more tolerant, versus solo playtime. This will lead to ease in broadening their social circle and decreased shyness, which will be a lifelong benefit in many areas of their lives. And of course, they help tire out hyper children - giving parents and caretakers a much-needed break!

Playgrounds provide children with an outlet for their excess energy. The ability to run, jump, climb, swing, slide, and more helps them expend it in a positive, productive way. This way, when recess is over, they will be more calm, response, cooperative, and patient during the rest of the day.

Score Big Savings At Government Auctions

Score Big Savings At Government Auctions! by Mark “The Shark” Anderson

In today’s challenging economy, many savvy and budget-conscious consumers seeking ways to save money are finding tremendous values at public auctions. A government auction can allow you to save big on everything from airplanes to
travel trailers.

Because of the power of the Internet - you can now become a member of an online forum and submit bids for items online.

Check out http://www.auctionwiseguys.com, which is an amazing website jam-packed with some tremendous auction related resources, including some reviews of America’s finest auction publishing programs that could benefit you.

Need a car? There are currently thousands of different vehicles available. Some are older models that appeal to the car enthusiast. But there’s also many newer model vehicles that are available for purchase too, such as a 2007 Ford Explorer

4×4 up for sale, but bidding ends soon.

Small business owners can also find some tremendous bargains on office equipment. Medical, dental and veterinarian equipment is oftentimes available. Also, you can come across high-end photographic equipment, and occasionally you’ll be in a position to purchase jewelry and exotic collectibles.

Homeowners aren’t left out of the mix - they can get home furnishings and lawn equipment at a fraction of the price that they’d have to pay in stores. Hobbyists will find power tools and miscellaneous shop equipment. Techies can find

computers and computer accessories.

Additionally, you can buy houses, agricultural supplies, camping equipment, guns, appliances, boats and motorcycles - virtually any item that consumers are regularly looking for can be found at auctions, and you’d be shocked at how little money many of these items will actually be sold for.

If that isn’t€™t enough - a government auction could quite possibly create a new line of income for you, just like it has done for me. While you might not become a millionaire overnight - you just might make a little extra money each month to

payoff some nagging bills, or pay for your next vacation. You can accomplish all of this good fortune by simply picking up any number of goods at a low price, and then reselling them to someone else for a profit. That’s what many independent used car dealers are doing these days, and this same business model could also work for you too.

Wondering where these items come from? Well………..most are items that various government authorities have seized due to tax debts, bankruptcies or because the property was obtained through illegal means or used to conduct illegal activities. In essence, their loss could be your gain.

Attending auctions can be fun and exciting, but most people never know where they’re going to be held unless they’re “in-the-know”. Some items are not available online, and can only be purchased by attending a live event. But by

becoming a member of a reputable auction listing program - the dates, times and locations of various public auctions will be neatly published and made available for you as a paid member.

Accordingly, becoming a member of one of these auction publishing programs is a wise decision that you will never regret unless you find out too late about the next scheduled public auction in your local area!

So take massive action now and don’t miss out, subscribe to one of the ridiculously affordable auction programs featured at http://www.auctionwiseguys.com.

Save Money - Cut Your Own Hair

Save Money - Cut Your Own Hair by Tammie Perrett

Thought about cutting your family’s hair to save money, but don’t know where to start.
Learn how to cut hair properly and give yourself the skills to save both time and money for the rest of your life.

If you are seriously considering cutting your own hair and/or your family’s hair, I recommend you read everything you can on basic haircutting techniques first, so that you understand the principles before you start cutting away at your hair.

Learning the basics will help you to understand how to properly position your hands, use your fingers as guides as well as understanding cutting angles, elevation and creating layers.

The first consideration is to buy a very good pair of hair cutting scissors. Try and get a pair with a pouch for safety and to keep them well hidden from the family. (Not only will they be extremely sharp, you don’t want them cutting icy poles, craft paper or little fingers). The most common hair cutting scissors out in the market are made for right handed users, you may have to go to a specialist beauty store if you are left handed. Innumerable advantages can be obtained while using thinning scissors for hair cutting. It doesn’t really matter what type of scissors you have as long as they are kept razor sharp. Make sure you keep your scissors well maintained with proper servicing - sharpening and repairing - at regular intervals.

You will also need a few other basic items in your haircutting toolkit. There is no golden rule when buying hair cutting equipment, but I would advise you to hold some of the clippers and scissors in your hands to see if they feel comfortable. Combs, brushes, a mirror and cutting cape are all necessary tools. Plastic capes are best as the hair will fall straight to the floor, making it easier to clean up. You can use an old oversized shirt as a cape, or even a plastic tablecloth with a hole in the middle?). Talc, giant clips and a water spray bottle are also quite handy. Oh…and don’t forget a good static broom or dust-buster to help with cleaning up.

A few tips: ” Always use extremely sharp scissors. ” Prepare the hair first by thoroughly combing or brushing out all the snarls and tangles. ” Make sure no hairs are hidden behind the ears or nape of the neck. ” Practice your hair cutting with a cutting block or dolls head to start. ” When cutting your toddlers hair - keep their hair cutting sessions brief. ” And finally, enjoy it - learning to cut hair should be a fun experience, give yourself time to learn.

You can give yourself and your family a very respectable haircut if you take it slow, and practice, practice, practice.

Packing Diaper Bag - What To Take Along On Outings With Baby

Packing Diaper Bag - What To Take Along On Outings With Baby by Baby Care

Going out for the day with a little one needs some planning on what to take along so you don’t get stranded somewhere away from home without an essential item or an unhappy camper because you forgot to bring something along. So be sure to pack your diaper bag with the necessities for your little one and make the most of your outing.
Some of the most important items of course are diapers, wipes, burp rags, a change of clothing (you never know what might happen along the way, car sickness, overflow on diapers, anything can happen with your unpredictable little one in tow)

Be sure you take plenty of bottles and formula if you are bottle feeding, I always like to put my powder formula into the little Tupperware midgets containers, they hold just the right amount for individual bottles and take up very little space, or they do make small containers that are divided into sections that you can pre measure your powder formulas for quickly mixing a bottle on the go.

If your little one takes a pacifier / binky be sure to take one or two extra along in case the one you leave home with gets lost along the way, You don’t want to have a broken hearted little one for miles on the road because you lost one.

Take your little one’s favorite blanket and a backup blanket just in case, I usually take extras in case they fall asleep in their car seat you can help keep them shaded from the sunshine and comfortable for the ride.

Always pack more than you think you will need just in case something unexpected happens.

Have little toys they can play with to keep them entertained.

If you have a toddler you will want to pack small snacks they pack great in the little tupperware snack cups or little baggies, take several of their favorite small toys and a spill proof cup you can quench their thirst with along the way.

This will help make your outing with little ones much easier and more enjoyable for you an baby when you travel prepared. Happy Traveling!

Creative Ideas This Summer For A Southwest Room

Creative Ideas This Summer For A Southwest Room by Craig Chambers

Summer is that wonderful time of year when we spend a lot of time outdoors. The day light hours are long and the evenings are warm. Flowers and trees are in full bloom and special treats such as corn on the cob and watermelon are enjoyed with lip smacking appreciation.
Summer is sure to inspire us. It gives our creative energies a chance to work on home decorating projecxts.

Surround yourself with southwest touches. So much time is spent outside. Create a unique area where you may relax with family and friends and enjoy the season. A unique southwestern environment may be created on your deck, porch or patio. Decorate your outdoor area with a southwest theme. It will become a favorite place of your home where family and friends gather.

Sunflowers are a wonderful way to introduce the southwest theme into your decor. Start with a wreath for your deck, porch or patio that is adorned with lovely sunflowers to welcome family and friends. Hang colorful ceramic birds from ceiling rafters as well as ristras of dried chili peppers for a real southwest theme. Furniture made of wrought iron gives your outdoor space a southwestern feeling. Add brightly colored cushions to complete the look.

Excellent color choices for your southwest decor are plump pillows in the colors of red, gold, orange, yellow, green, or blue. Placing a large area rug in front of the seating area will help pull the area together. Plants in colorful pottery can also be placed around the area to define space. Want to create pleasurable summer memories? Use a fire ring in your outdoor area to cook marshmallows and hot dogs.

Always keep the flame of your fire small and never leave it unattended especially around children and pets. Crweate a real southwestern feel by hanging a few strings of chili pepper lights around the area.

Have an area in your home that seems a little drab? Place a Native American basket in that spot filled with dazzling silk sunflowers. Color can do amazing things. Silk sunflowers can be used year round to give your home a sunny and happy feeling.

Talavera, a unique southwestern pottery crafted in southern Mexico, makes beautiful accent pieces in designated spaces. There are all kinds of accent pieces for your home. Each piece is beautifully hand made and painted. There are a lot of items available with hand painted sunflowers. Pottery of this kind will definately turn your southwestern space into an area of beauty. Stunning colors such as blue and gold can be included in your area.

Organization becomes easier with the use of Native American baskets in various sizes. They work great for holding dried flowers. There are so many uses for incoporating Indian baskets into your home. Try them in your entryway for mail, kitchen for untesils and bathroom to hold towels. As baskets are added to the organizational needs of your home, you’ll find so many creative ways in which to use them. You’ll find a use for baskets in every room and be delighted at how organized you become.

You can certainly find many treasures at flea markets or second hand stores. For a crafty idea, paint your find and incorporate it into your southwest decor. Any piece of wooden furniture may be turned into a southwest masterpiece. Consider your table, chairs and book cases as a potential piece of art. You’ll have a true work of art if you choose a bright color ehat complements the room. For a unique one of a kind design, once your paint is dry, stencil on designs such aa sunflowers of chili peppers.

Candles placed in table top clay chimineas will add sparkle and sizzle to your southwestern room. With this, an authentic “south of the border” theme is created. Wall sconces are also a nice touch. Create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. A nice and needed addition would be the use of big pillows placed in richly woven wool pillow covers. This creates nice areas for floor lounging. For special southwestern touches, play soft Native American flute music and light incense with the scent of sage.

Put a smaile on your face this summer by surrounding yourself with beautiful things you love. A southwest summer is such a pleasure to experience. Build lasting memories that will be fresh in your mind throughout the next three seasons.

How to Throw a Baby Shower

How to Throw a Baby Shower by Caitlina Fuller

I am throwing a baby shower for my friend soon. It should be great fun. We have lots of friends who are girls and I am sure that they would love to come and celebrate with us. I have quite a few jobs to do beforehand. I have decided on all the food that I am doing - I have found a lovely cake and then I just need to make some sandwiches and nibbles to go with it. I am not going to make too much food because it is an afternoon party and so people are not likely to be that hungry and I am sure that most of us will be watching our weight, as most girls seem to be these days and so we will probably save ourselves and just have some cake!
I have sent out the baby shower invitations now and so hope that I will start to get some replies soon as I need to know how many people are coming. I only have limited space and have a huge guest list and so if some people say that they cannot come, I will be able to invite a few others instead if there is time to do that. I am hoping that they reply to the invitations quickly. I have got some napkins and plates and even a table cloth which match the same design as I used for the party invitations as I like everything to match. I think it looks really nice if you have a coordinated theme for a party, rather than a mishmash of different things. I have a basic blue theme as she is having a boy and have blue icing on the cake and am having a blue banner and blue china and cups on the table.

Hopefully it will all go together really well and everyone will have a good time. I need to start thinking about what gift to buy for the guest of honour and I will have great fun looking at all of the lovely baby things in the various shops as I think little clothes are so cute! I will probably end up spending loads and buy all sort of impractical things because I have not got children and so do not know what things are useful and what are not. I do remember my sister saying that she had loads of teddies and cuddly toys so I will avoid those. I am sure clothes will always be useful especially if I buy a selection of sizes.

10 Ways to tell if your baby has allergies, and not just a cold

10 Ways to tell if your baby has allergies, and not just a cold by Paul Banas

Many of the symptoms of nasal allergies (also known as allergic rhinitis) are similar to those of cold symptoms–runny nose, watery eyes, cough, nasal congestion, sneezing. Many times parents are confused on whether their child has a long-term cold or allergies.
Allergies are different though. Here are ten things to look for:
- Is your baby sneezing a lot?
- Does he have a dry cough, not coughing anything up?
- Are his eyes, red, watery, and itchy?
- Is his skin breaking out, irritated, or have an itchy red rash?
- Is your baby’s nose always stuffy or running?
- Does it seem like your baby always has a cold? (Colds usually wind themselves down in a week to ten days; allergies don’t.)
- Does your baby breathe through his mouth?
- Is your baby constantly rubbing, or touching her nose?
- Does your baby have thin and clear mucous draining from her nose (or is it think and yellow or green?)?
- Does it look like he or she has a black eye (”allergic shiner”) where the skin is dark or purple under her eyes.
If your baby has more than one of these symptoms, there is fairly good chance your baby is allergic to something in his or her environment. The most common culprit is dust mites, but there are many other allergies. Since common allergies are linked to ear infections and possibly asthma, it’s a good idea to discuss these symptoms with your doctor and eventually with an allergist who can easily test for more specific allergens.

Tips for Dealing with Bad Breath in Toddlers

Tips for Dealing with Bad Breath in Toddlers by Paul Banas

Bad breath (halitosis) in toddlers tends to surprise parents as it is generally thought to occur only in grown-ups. Leftover food particles could cause breath odor in a healthy child. Food particles can be stuck between the teeth, at the gum line, on the tongue, or on the surface of the tonsils. The resulting bacterial build-up will react with saliva and cause bad breath.

Here are some causes of bad breath in toddlers:

- Tartar build-up
- Tooth infections
- Pacifier use
- Dehydration
- Pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx)
- Tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils)

There is no need for parents to worry of course! Regular dental hygiene can easily take care of the problem. Here are some common solutions to help you deal with your toddlers’ bad breath:

- Make sure your toddlers are getting adequate fluid intake. This will take care of dehydration, if any exists.
- Make sure your toddlers are brushing correctly. If not, teach them the correct techniques.
- Use a timer for brushing time to make sure your toddlers brush for the correct length of time.
- Talk with your dentist and get your toddlers a routine check up.
- Make sure the pacifiers that your toddlers may be using are regularly sterilized.

Of course, bad breath in some instances can simply be caused by recently consumed foods or beverages such as garlic or onions or spicy foods like pepperoni.
There are other serious cases, however, where your children’s breath may smell toxic. In these circumstances, immediately check if your toddlers have consumed any chemical or medicine accidentally kept within reach.

Save water and save money

Save water and save money. by Scott Rodgers

Nowadays water is a precious resource. Sometimes it is hard to believe that as you look up into the heavens and see another cloud about to empty its rain down upon you, but even now in this country there are a number of states that impose water restrictions because the demand for water is outstripping demand. So, whenever there is a chance to save water, it will help the environment, the economy, and save you money.
When you think of saving water, I’m sure you’ll think of all sorts of things indoors. There’s the dripping taps, the toilet that doesn’t stop flushing and uses too much water per flush, the shower head that doesn’t have a flow restrictor, the people who run the water while they are brushing their teeth or shaving. All these sorts of things need to be the forefront of your mind if you are wanting to save water.

However, there’s also the chance of saving water outside. Using water outside more efficiently is the best way to ’save’ it. Tons of water pours from the roof and into the storm water system. This is water that you could be using every day. All you need is a tank that is filled by the water off the gutter downpipes. And if you don’t like the thought of a great big ugly tank siting in the middle of your property, there’s now no need to worry as there are a number of tank manufacturers who provide tanks that can be shaped so that they closely fit to the exterior walls of your house. These tanks also now have excellent health technology so that the water doesn’t sit around at the base of the tank, but is emptied from the bottom rather than the top. There are also excellent systems you can use, mainly using some form of meshing, which can cover over the top of your meshing to prevent all sorts of muck getting into the water. You can also use water purifying systems that mean you can even use this water inside of your house for drinking and cleaning. In fact, the water that comes from the sky, as long as your guttering and tank are regularly cleaned, may well be of a better quality than the water from your local authority.

Having this supply means that you can continue to use water outside without feeling guilty about wasting town water supplies. There are a few things that are beneficial to remember, though. If you have a sprinkler system, buy a system that will water the roots of the plants rather than just have a general spray. This will aid the vegetation in growth and also use less water. Also, arrange your garden so that the plants that need more water are grouped together so that they get the full benefits of the irrigation system and the others that don’t need much water aren’t flooded and die.

If you can, wash your vehicles on the lawn so that you can use the water for both. Ensure you utilize organic cleaners, else you poison rather than water your lawn.

Make sure that your outside fixtures are also not leaking. Recall that through the simple drips of leaking faucets, you can lose tons of water and thus, money. So, check often to make sure your faucets are not leaking.

Knickernappies Disposanots Pocket diapers and inserts are ready to use but most other diapers are not. The natural oils of the materials need to be washed out. Hemp diapers and inserts will need to be washed 3 times separately before they are ready to be used.

Pick the right detergent
Having the right detergent will be the foundation of your diapers best performance and long life. Do not use detergents with additives such as brighteners, enzymes, and fabric softener. All these things will cause build up in your diapers.

Parenting Teenagers - How to Have Respectful Teenagers

Parenting Teenagers - How to Have Respectful Teenagers
By Dolly Yeo

Most working parents find being calm and peaceful a challenging feat. Unless, you are living your passion, enjoying your work and it does not feel like work to you. Otherwise, going to work becomes a chore. You dread to go to work. You come home stressed and tired. Do you think you could talk calmly to your teenagers? Do you think you could show respect to them?

If you are looking or expecting for respect from your teenagers, you have got to first respect them. This is a time where they watch you like a hawk. This is what they are thinking “If you want me to respect you, show me first.” You are my parent, you are supposed to be my role model.

Teenagers expect congruency. If you tell them “I expect you to show some respect, I am your parent, don’t ever raise your voice when you are talking to me!” Either they ask you “Then why are you raising your voice when you are talking to me?’ or they walk away, or worst still, they shout back at you. This is a reflection of how you are with them. Respectful parents begets respectful teenagers.

How many parents honestly are aware of this reflection? What you expect from teenagers is what you have to do first. Simple but not easy. First, if you are a busy parent, it is unlikely that you have that sense of balance to be calm and peaceful. If you are rushing from one place to another with no work life balance, it would be a challenge to be calm and peaceful. Add to that, if you don’t enjoy your work, you get angry very easily. It’s impossible to be calm and show respect when you are communicating with your teenagers.

Find something that you are passionate about so that you can enjoy your work and feel good inside. When you feel good inside, being calm and peaceful is likely to be within your reach. Showing mutual respect when communicating to your teenagers becomes a positive habit.

Kids’ Easter Egg Art Project

Kids’ Easter Egg Art Project
By Anthony Vecchioni

If you are planning on coloring Easter eggs with your kids this year, keep the protective table cloth out a little longer. Here’s another Easter art project for the whole family. This project uses a process called ‘crayon resist.’ Introducing your child to this unique procedure can lead to many surprising and creative results.

What You Need:

-Watercolor paper (or white construction paper)
-Scissors
-White or yellow crayon
-Watercolor
-Brushes

What to Do:

1. Cover your kitchen or dining table with newspaper or art project table cloth.

2. Cut out different sized oval shapes. The smallest ones should be no smaller that the size of an actual egg.

3. Use a white crayon to make designs on your ovals. (Hint: If your child has a difficult time seeing the white crayon on white paper, then use a yellow crayon.) Wavy lines, zigzags, stars and circles all work well.

4. Use a wide brush to cover the ovals with watercolor. Use different colors for different eggs. Be sure to clean the brush before switching colors, or use a separate brush for each color.

5. Let the ovals dry. For deeper hues, apply a second coat of water color.

You can see that the areas where the crayon was used have an interesting result: these areas have resisted the watercolor. Give your child a chance to express her understanding of crayon resist by doing this art project more than once. Once your child catches on, you can use the same procedure for abstract art, pattern making, or for that matter-any picture your child would normally make. Have fun!

The Academy Awards - How It All Began

It was in 1929 when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science first started the Oscars. Within a few years, the awards had grown so large and popular that in 1935, the balloting system had to be subcontracted to the PricewaterhouseCoopers company which has been in charge of it ever since. The secret envelope that are used in today’s shows have been around since PricewaterhouseCoopers introduced it back in 1941.

Featuring 5 main categories but a total of 15 in all, the Academy Awards annually hands out an award of merit that features a knight with a sword standing un top of a five spoke reel of film which is all sitting on a black base. The statuette itself is 8 pounds and 13.5 inches tall. The members in charge of running the ceremony are selected and invited to join by the Board of Governors to be part of this popular event.

It was George Stanley along with Alex Smith who created the original Oscar statuette and since this time the figure has only been revised once. Each and every single year, these awards are given out to the best in the film industry and there are only 40 of them created for any given ceremony.

When the award were first created, in order for a film to be eligible for an award it had to have been made in the previous 12 month period. Due to the war though, this was changed to 16 months back in 1932 and has yet to have been reversed. Furthermore, no film under 40 minutes in length or with a resolution less then 1280 x 720 can be considered for an Oscar as it would not be considered full-length.

Unlike the Grammy Awards, the Oscars have been in many different venues since its establishment and have been hosted on varying months of the year as well. Until 1954, the awards were always held on Thursdays after which they were moved to Mondays until 1999 and now are held on a Sunday.

The Oscars and the movie industry in general have always been surrounded by glamour and magic. Who would ever have thought when it all started that we would be able to grasp a little bit of that glamour in our own homes with the advent of dvd rental services.

It is amazing how many venues the Academy Awards have been held at. They started off with the first ceremony being in the Hotel Roosevelt, after which it would rotate between both the Biltmore Hotel and the Ambassador Hotel. It would stay in this rotation until the 1940s when it would be moved to Grauman’s Chinese followed by the Shrine Auditorium.

Then the venues would be changed to the Grauman’s Chinese Theater, followed by the Shrine Auditorium and then in 1949, the Academy Award Theater. The Pantages Theater would stay the home for the next decade after which the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium would become its home. Until 1988, the Los Angeles Music Center along with the Shrine Auditorium would become the place for the awards here it was finally moved to the Kodak Theater.

People all over the world watch the Academy Awards every year. There are more then a billion pairs of eyes tuned into the ceremonies. They all want to see who will in as well as see the action, glamour and glitter that makes Hollywood the place where dreams really do come true.

Tips for Proper Car Service Repair

Correct car servicing is crucial if a person intends to enjoy a superior car performance over the long haul. As the cost of purchasing a automobile continues to increase, paying attention to good car service maintenance will permit extensive car ownership. Over time, this extended ownership period will help reduce the costs of car loan expenses and interest charges. It’s imperative to understand how to discover a quality car servicing place, as well as how to avoid getting suckered by crooked repair shops.

When trying to discover a worthy car service repair place, be sure to understand a few time-tested points on the area. First of all, don’t drag your feet to hit upon a truthful car servicing place until one is immediately needed. The worst thing is to have an accident and then be towed to the nearest repair place. Friends and family are a wonderful means to be introduced to a possible repair location. If they’ve experienced superior repairs, it’s a good chance the repair shop provides the same service to all their customers. Before formulating a final choice, though, be certain to ask for a few additional references and then inquire of those folks about their experiences.

Correct car servicing calls for knowledge of a few necessary maintenance keys. Pricey car service repairs can be evaded by sticking to a maintenance calendar. Be vigilant and test the oil level at least once a week. Let the automobile idle for about thirty seconds, shut off, and then wait about two minutes or so. Then draw out the oil measuring stick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then draw it out again. This will register a proper reading of the oil level.

There are various car service timeframes to be aware of. A few key timeframes are as follows: at every 3000 miles or 3 months, the oil should be changed. Spark plugs should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Every 6,000 miles or so, rotate the tires. It used to be normal for a timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles, but now some have differing intervals and owner’s instructions should also be read. Tires should be aligned every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. At every 35,000 to 40,000 miles, the fuel filter should be changed. Following car servicing periods such as these will help ensure that a automobile lasts for a long time.

Purchasers of Volvo cars must always pay attention to the aforementioned car service periods as well as checking their instruction books for proper Volvo service on their car. All Volvos should be looked at at the correct service intervals that are discussed in Volvo Service Records booklets or at one of the various Volvo dealerships. By focusing on all car servicing obligations under the hood and on the body, Volvo purchasers can keep their vehicles in wonderful condition and enjoy their driving time for a lot of years.

Another facet to car servicing to be attentive to are car service repair rip-offs. A group of folks who are often victims of this sort of deception are the aged. One such scam happens when an apparently caring individual flags an older person down. This crook tells the driver that it appears as if the car requires repairs. The con artist then puts the car up on the jack and loosens the tire so it will look loose. The older person is swindled into giving the crook funds to mend the issue.

When bringing an automobile in for car servicing, recognize that there exist repair establishments will add falsely needed repairs to the work form in order to increase profits. Taking the auto to another car service repair place can help to figure out whether the added repairs are really needed or not.

Owning a auto necessitates much more than just adding gasoline when the tank gets low. By knowing the fundamentals of car servicing, a car can be made to endure much longer than many people realize. The majority of repair shops, such as those located at many Volvo service places, include honest individuals. However, it’s always a good idea to take the time to realize the car service process.

Reap Better Rewards with the Right Vegetable Garden Tools

You’ll need the proper tools to make your vegetable garden most productive. However, you don’t need to buy the most expensive tools to get the best out of your vegetable garden plot. A quick walk through a garden center will alert you to the many different tools that are available. Some are quite basic, while others use fancy technology to operate. While your choices may seem endless, this basic list of necessary items will give you a good start with a new garden, or improve an existing one.

What Vegetable Garden Tools Do I Need?

A short list of necessary items includes a shovel, trowel, garden rake, hoe, watering can and a hose. These vegetable garden tools can get you started quickly, but you may need to add other items at a later date. When you are selecting tools, keep in mind the purpose for which they were designed. A shovel, for instance, is a vegetable garden tool that you will use a lot. Take note of the shovel’s weight; something too heavy and cumbersome may not be practical. While stainless steel tool heads are the best quality, they are the most expensive. If you purchase a tool that is of a lesser type metal or material, be sure to properly care for it by rinsing it off after every use and storing it for the winter after applying a coat of wax to the head.

For your vegetable garden, tools that have a wooden handle, like hoes or rakes, are able to absorb vibrations easier and puts less stress on your hands, arms and back. However, they can be heavy. Fiberglass handles are lighter in weight but you will feel every bounce and strike off the ground. This may tire you and cause some additional aches and pains. You may also find plastic handles on certain types of shovels or rakes. While the plastic that is used for the handles is of a very durable blend, if you leave these tools outside in the sun, they will become damaged very quickly.

Tips for Tools for the Vegetable Garden

Planting your own vegetable garden will give you personal satisfaction as well as some great tasting produce. Prepare the soil properly first, using a shovel with a flat blade head. Turn the soil completely to allow for proper drainage. The tools you need will also depend on the size of your vegetable garden. For small areas, choose tools with smaller heads, blades and tines. Getting tools that are too large will make working in the garden difficult and you may damage young and tender plants.

If you are planting seeds or plants purchased from a garden center use your trowel to carefully dig up the ground. Be sure to remove any large stones or debris from this area. If the soil is sandy, you may want to add planting mix to improve it. After you’re through planting, be sure to gently water the seeds or young plants with your watering can. Don’t use a high-powered water spray. With time and the right tools, your vegetable garden will be as delightful as it is delicious.

Home Improvement And Maintenance Can Add Value To Your House And Lifestyle

Please let me give you an example of the relationship between home improvement & maintenance.  I have cats and when they were kittens they decided that certain spots on my rugs were litter boxes.  After much effort, and occasional loss of temper, I managed to get them to use the litter box but the damage to the rugs was done. I tried maintenance like cleaning and things like that but in the end I wound up cutting huge chunks of my fairly new rugs up to get rid of the smell and stop the cats from damaging more of the rugs.  My wife loves hardwood floors so now she has decided that since the cats have ruined the rugs, and my attempts to clean the rugs have not been totally successful.

A different example of the relationship between home improvement & maintenance is my back porch gutters.  I have my roof, which of course has gutters on it, and then my deck is all in my back yard.  I live in snow country so the snow can accumulate in the gutters if not watched.  I have been maintaining the situation for a couple years by getting a telescoping device that allows me to get the snow off my roof so it cannot get into my house by melting. But, it is obvious that this maintenance is temporary and home improvement by way of new eaves is necessary.  But this is the dynamic between home improvement & maintenance, you do maintenance for as long as you can and then eventually home improvement is needed.

It is just a matter of getting a good and knowing when it is the right time to get on with some serious home improvements. Sometimes this can be as simple as installing an American pool table in your basement or spare room. Rather than cluttering up your storage rooms having a good quality slate bed pool table will provide a fun leisure alternative and may even increase the value of your home through the lifestyle it is associated with. You can find cheap pub pool tables for sale in auctions and classified ads and this can lead to a real improvement in lifestyle as well as your home.

It will create discipline and is more sustainable in the long run.

Interesting Facts and Notes About Christmas

It is an accepted fact that the Christmas tree tradition is one that was brought to the shores of America by German immigrants who continued a practice that was popular in their former homeland. Today, a Christmas tree, even a miniature one, is present in just about every home at Christmas. It is therefore interesting to note some little-know facts about the Christmas Tree and other traditions related to Christmas.

The first interesting fact is the source of real Christmas Trees for some Americans. These can be bought at a Christmas Tree Farm or at many local stores and other places of business in just about every town and city across the country around Christmas time. But according to the National Christmas Tree Association, Americans buy about 330,000 Christmas trees that are real through e-commerce or from a catalogue and have them shipped by mail-order.

The scent of real Christmas trees is the reason they are so popular. But as they stand silently in their decorative wonder, they also are providing another benefit. The Christmas Tree Association says the amount of oxygen produced on a daily basis by one acre of Christmas tree is enough to provide enough oxygen for 18 people. And during the first week, a Christmas Tree at home will use up to one quart of water each day to help retain its longevity for the many days of Christmas.

Since Christmas celebrations gained popularity in America, the Christmas Tree has always been a big tradition. During the 1950s however, artificial Christmas trees were not always green. It was very popular during those times to have artificial trees with other colors such as silver, pink and aqua. The appeal in having these colored Christmas trees may have been due to the fact that they looked shiny and bright and appeared like tinsel instead of green foliage.

An important ceremony related to the Christmas tree that gains national attention during the Christmas season is the lighting of the National Christmas Tree at the White House. This tradition can be credited to President Calvin Coolidge who lit the first decorated Christmas tree outside at the White House in 1923.

The lighting of the National Christmas Tree has also been used to convey some symbolic meaning not related to Christmas. It was not lighted until Dec. 22 in 1963 because of a national mourning period of 30 days for the assassination of President Kennedy. And while Teddy Roosevelt was President he gave an order that banned the Christmas tree from the White House, not for the assassination of President McKinley in 1901, which caused him to become president, but for reasons related to the environment.

Also of note is that when the National Christmas Tree was lighted on Dec. 13 in 1984, temperatures were in the 70s during an unusually warm December.

Christmas has been celebrated in the United States since the 1600s although it wasn’t always very popular. It took more than two centuries into the mid-late 1860s for Christmas to become a popular holiday season all across America. So maybe the rest of the country owes the holiday of Christmas Day to the state of Alabama, which in 1836 became the first state to declare Dec. 25 a legal holiday.

It is interesting to note that on Christmas Day of 1789 Congress was in session. And to show how far ahead of the game Alabama was, it wasn’t until June 26, 1870 that the federal government declared Christmas as a federal holiday. Although Christmas is based on the Christian religion, not all Christian groups celebrate the season.

Among the Christian groups who do not celebrate Christmas and related traditions such as sending greeting cards are Jehovah Witnesses. Jehovah Witnesses and other non-participating Christian groups say Christmas isn’t specifically mentioned in the Bible as a time or reason to celebrate and since they strictly adhere to the word of the Bible, they refuse to celebrate Christmas.

Design an Organic Baby Nursery - 5 Easy Tips

With the recent focus on organic living and eco-friendly products, many parents have become interested in creating non-toxic, natural living spaces for their children. One room that typically receives special attention is the baby nursery. Since newborns are still developing, a healthy home environment is particularly important. Creating an eco-friendly or organic baby nursery is a smart move not only for your baby, but for your family and the environment as well.

If you’ve ever awaited the birth of a child, you know that it’s an exciting time! With happy anticipation, the decorating frenzy begins. Bedding and furniture are purchased, walls are painted and new floors may be installed. It’s natural to want everything in the baby nursery to be new and beautiful for your precious newborn.

But new and beautiful doesn’t necessarily mean safe. Traditional furniture, paints and fabrics may have chemicals and toxins that can be unhealthy for your baby. Luckily, stores and online boutiques are offering more eco-friendly options for furniture, wall coverings, floorings, and organic baby bedding. These natural, organic baby products are typically produced without the use of harmful chemicals and thus contribute to a healthier nursery environment.

Here are five smart purchases to make when creating your organic baby nursery.

A Natural Wood Baby Crib. Your baby spends many hours sleeping early in life so a non-toxic crib is important. Traditional wood cribs may have harmful stains or finishes while furniture made from pressed wood may contain adhesives that can also irritate your baby. Consider purchasing a sustainable natural wood crib with a non-toxic finish.

An Organic Crib Mattress. Your baby’s actual sleeping surface is just as important as the crib. Conventional mattresses may contain materials and toxins that may be released into the air while your baby sleeps. To promote your baby’s health and safety, look for organic crib mattresses that are made from certified-organic materials and fabrics.

Organic Crib Bedding. Many people are unaware that conventionally-grown cotton is one of the most heavily-sprayed crops in the world. To ensure that your baby’s sensitive skin is not exposed to toxins in regular cotton bedding, consider organic baby bedding made from natural, organic fabrics and eco-friendly dyes.

Eco-friendly Carpet and Flooring. Traditional carpets typically contain known allergens such as adhesives, stain protectors and flame retardants. To avoid bringing these allergens into your baby’s room, look for healthier alternatives such as eco-friendly hardwoods, bamboo and cork floorings or rugs made of natural fibers.

Non-toxic Paint. Ever been painting and noticed that strong odor? Many traditional paints emit toxins called volatile organic compounds which can be hazardous to your family’s health. Look for low-voc, zero-voc or milk-based paints made of natural non-toxic elements.

Creating an organic baby nursery is a great way to prepare for the arrival of your precious child. By incorporating these design details, you can create a healthy, nurturing nursery for your baby.
